ANTS

Ants mainly feed on sugary foods and protein so will generally be in or around the home or the kitchen area as they search for food. Worker ants are 3-4mm long of a brown/black colour with elbowed antennae and biting jaws. Garden Ants usually nest outdoors in lawns, flower beds, beneath paving slabs and at the base of walls.

Premises are usually invaded by worker ants foraging for food, especially sweet foods. During summer, winged females (queens) and males leave the nest on one or two warm afternoons and take flight. During this flight, which may only last for 2- 3 hours, the ants mate. The formation of a new colony starts with a mated winged female digging into the earth to overwinter and start a new colony in the spring.

Treatments include applying a residual insecticide or baiting programme. Pharaoh Ants however, will require a more extensive baiting program to remove the pest problem.

BEDBUGS

Bed Bugs ( Cimex lectularius ) or vampire bugs as we call them are a nasty little parasite. Nocturnal, they come out of their hiding places to feed on human blood at night causing much distress to their victims.

Bed Bugs can infest anywhere, they can be picked up without knowing and brought into the home. Many cases of which we have worked on are from customers who have recently travelled.

Eggs hatch in around 10 days, and nymphs can immediately begin to feed. They require a blood meal in order to molt and develop into the next stage. Bed bugs reach maturity after five molts. Developmental time (egg to adult) takes about 21 days. The nymphal period is prolonged when food is scarce. The adult’s life span may be up to 18 months and they are known to be able to survive for 12 months without feeding.

Signs of a bed bug infestation can be blood stains from bites or crushed bugs or by dark spots of excrement on sheets, mattresses and walls. Faecal spots and shedded skins may be found in the area of their hiding places. A horrible, sweet, musty smell from their scent glands may be detected when bed bug infestations are severe. As the smell develops over time you may become use to it. Top hiding places to look for include along the edges of the mattress and behind the headboard.

The removal of these bugs is by know means an easy task we use several methods of control including cleaning along with sprays and dusts, multiple visits may also be required.

The Bees perform a vital role in our life whether its pollinating flowers, enabling us to enjoy fruits and vegetables and flowers for the following year.

All bees whether solitary or social feed on pollen and nectar and they rear their young on the same diet. In this respect they differ from almost all wasps.

HONEY BEE

Honey bees, both feral and colonised, are important beneficial insects, not normally considered as pests. They live either in the wild or as colonies in hives kept by beekeepers. In either case they will only sting people if they are provoked.

Because of their beneficial role, every effort should be made to avoid carrying out control treatments against bees. Treatment with a pesticide should be considered only if they pose a risk.

If treatment is considered necessary, every reasonable action should be taken to prevent foraging honey bees from gaining access to the treated nest, by removing the combs or blocking the nest entrances.

The Treatment of honey bees is never an easy task as the bees like to colonise in high structures such as chimneys.

BUMBLE BEE

There are 25 species of this type of bee in Britain and not all of them look the same. They form fairly small colonies of about a few hundred individuals.

The colony is headed by the queen bee who lays the eggs, while worker bees collect the pollen and nectar which keeps the colony supplied.

They are very important pollinators for both farms and gardeners. Please remember that bumble bees will never attack if left alone.

If you do want to have a bumble bee nest removed please contact us.

Fleas are less than half a centimeter in length, brownish in colour, without wings, but with powerful legs adapted for jumping and piercing. Their bodies are covered with backward projecting spines that assist them in moving amongst the host hairs of cats and dogs.

Cat and dog fleas look very similar and should be treated as a general pests. Female fleas can live up to two years, during which time they can lay up to 1000 eggs each. The female cat fleas head is twice as long as it is wide. Both cat and dog fleas have a row of very heavy spines on the front of the head and on the back part of the first body segment.

Cat and dog flea larvae are half a centimetre long when fully developed and look much like fly maggots. They have 13 body segments, are a dirty-white colour with backward projecting hairs on each body segment. They also have a pair of hook-like appendages on the last abdominal segment.

The treatment would consist of a residual spary along with an insect growth regulator and ulv for flushing and knockdown.

FUMIGATION

abugz-fumigation

Fumigation is a method of pest control that completely fills an area with gaseous pesticides—or fumigants—to suffocate or poison the pests within, such as fleas, spiders, flies, fishmoths and cockroaches.

It is utilized for control of pests in buildings (structural fumigation), soil, grain, and produce, and is also used during processing of goods to be imported or exported to prevent transfer of exotic organisms.

This method also affects the structure itself, affecting pests that inhabit the physical structure, such as woodborers and drywood termites.

Our team wil explain the pre preparation for safety.

The Brown Rat (Rattus Norvegicus) can measure up to 40cm in length. Fur colour can vary but is generally dull brown/grey in colour. Rats are omnivorous and whilst they generally feed on cereals and grains, if hungry they can take small chicks and eggs.

One of the main characteristics of rats is that they are neophobic – very wary of anything new and they can take 4-5 days before they accept a new object into their environment. They prefer small-enclosed spaces and get around by smell & touch. They like to be up against something as they travel like a wall or pipe. Contrary to popular beliefs regarding rats being dirty they are in fact very clean animals and spend up to 20% of their time grooming.

They are however carriers of a number of diseases, including Salmonella, Hantavirus, Rat bite fever and the most publicised of which is Weil’s Disease which can be fatal to humans. Rats take between 2-3 months to reach sexual maturity and can have up to 7 litters per year.

A very destructive insect that can cause huge damage in and around home. Owing to their wood-eating habits, many termite species can do great damage to unprotected buildings and other wooden structures. Their habit of remaining concealed often results in their presence being undetected until the timbers are severely damaged and exhibit surface changes.

Once termites have entered a building, they do not limit themselves to wood; they also damage paper, cloth, carpets, and other cellulosic materials. Particles taken from soft plastics, plaster, rubber, and sealants such as silicone rubber and acrylics are often employed in construction.

Our team uses the best chemicals in the trade to destroy nestS.
The only effective method is drilling all around dwelling AND pump chemical into nest
